“On stage, I try to make women feel what powerful, magical beings they are”
“In this world, ‘femininity’ and ‘strength’ are rarely combined, yet they are almost synonyms!”
“The only thing that should guide our choices in life is the pursuit of our own happiness”
“For me “Crazy” is a way of life. Everything needs to be in the style: special, glamorous, unique. There’s a very thin line between beauty, sensuality and eroticism.”
“As soon as I dance, I come alive. I feel like life is radiating within me and on stage… I explode!”
“I loved this idea of going from the prestigious New York City Ballet to the iconic Crazy Horse Paris”

"When I'm on stage I feel strong, galvanised, untouchable, totally in control and have the feeling that anything is possible. I feel 100% myself. It’s on stage that I’m the most sincere and honest version of myself, because my own life and stage experiences align and become one."

For over 70 years, Crazy Horse Paris has been a symbol of Parisian nightlife. Locals, tourists, and celebrities alike gather there to experience the quintessence of the French spirit at its freest, most quirky, glamorous, and creative. The mastermind behind this legendary venue was a visionary and iconoclastic dandy, Alain Bernardin. A colorful character with a tragic destiny, this former antique dealer, part-time painter, and lover of women and the night sought to combine aesthetics and daring, light play and curved silhouettes, turning the female body into an artistic manifesto.
Telling the story of Crazy Horse Paris is telling many stories: that of Parisian nights, of our relationship with the body and nudity, and of the evolution of social mores over the last seventy years...
It is also a story of sexual revolution, women’s emancipation, and of contemporary art, fashion, and music.
For nearly 20 years at the helm of the legendary cabaret, Andrée Deissenberg, General Manager of Creation and Brands, shares how she has breathed new life into it by placing creativity at the heart of its identity. Indeed, Crazy Horse Paris has had to constantly reinvent itself to remain relevant through every era and today must adapt to a new world shaped by a resurgence of feminism and gender issues.
This cabaret remains iconic also thanks to its collaborations with numerous artists such as Christian Louboutin, Dita Von Teese, Arielle Dombasle, Pamela Anderson, Philippe Decouflé, and Beyoncé.
“Crazy Horse, a cabaret called desire” will be broadcast on August 3rd at 10:40 PM on TV channel Arte and available on arte.tv from July 27th to November 7th, 2025.
Inside the legendary halls of Crazy Horse Paris, rehearsals are typically a private ritual—an intimate act of preparation rarely seen by anyone beyond the troupe. I had the privilege of going behind the scenes to document the journey of one of their newest recruits: Gypsy Jane.
This photo series follows Gypsy Jane through two parallel spaces: the sacred stage of Crazy Horse Paris, where she rehearses a new solo performance, and a quiet studio across town where she moves entirely for herself. No makeup. No mirrors. Just intuition, instinct, and the rhythm of her breath.
These photographs are not just about dance—they’re about the process of becoming. The solitude before the spotlight. The internal rehearsal that builds the confidence we see on stage.
In Crazy Horse Paris' rehearsal space, Gypsy Jane works through the bones of her new solo—exploring nuance, power, and rhythm with a mix of grace and grit. On another day, she returns to her private studio, barefoot and alone, dancing purely for herself. The energy shifts from performance to meditation.
She credits her Australian upbringing for the grounded energy she brings to the Parisian stage.
These photographs reveal a dancer in motion, but also in evolution. Through repetition, stillness, and soul-searching, Piper shapes not only her choreography—but her identity as a Crazy Horse Paris woman.
This story is a quiet tribute to those fleeting moments before the curtain rises. A glimpse into the layers of vulnerability and strength that make a Crazy Horse Paris dancer unforgettable—even when no one is watching.
As a photographer, my work has often taken me to remote corners of the world, where I’ve captured the pulse of humanity in extreme conditions. But within the storied walls of Crazy Horse Paris, I found a different kind of intensity—one defined by ritual, discipline, and creative collaboration. This series is an intimate glimpse into the unseen side of the world-renowned cabaret: the rehearsals, the backstage moments, the quiet human connection that makes the show possible. Through these black-and-white images, I hope to convey the dedication, passion, and resilience that defines the women of Crazy Horse Paris.
